Every Earth Day promotes energy and commitment to drive positive action for our planet.
This year’s Earth Day, Friday 22nd of April holds the theme ‘Invest in our planet’. It is an approach that promotes togetherness; businesses, governments and citizens must all be accountable to choose both a prosperous and sustainable future to solve the climate crisis.
Slater Harrison have supplied sustainable paper & paperboard based products for over 90 Years, and wholeheartedly support the values and aspirations of Earth Day. At the heart of our business is our pledge to supply beautiful papers which have a minimum impact on the environment, using only ethically sourced raw materials.
As a manufacturing company in the forestry sector, we understand that environmental preservation needs to be at the forefront of our business model. As such, we uphold and are guided by various practices to ensure we operate in an efficient manner whilst protecting the environment.
Waste Reduction
We are obligated under the Producer Responsibility (Packaging Waste) Regulations 2007 and ensure full compliance with these regulations. We take the management of our waste seriously. We have waste compacters on site, which reduces the carbon footprint by reducing collections, and all waste removed is recycled again or converted as an energy source.
Responsible Fibre Sourcing
Our FSC® Chain of Custody Certification ensures that all of our paper and paperboard products come from responsibly managed forests and provide environmental, social and economic benefits to the communities.
Energy Conservation
We have recently completed a large project installing LED lighting throughout the business. Additionally, some of our converting machines are equipped with gas and electricity sensors to monitor usage and reduce waste. Lastly, solar panels have now been installed on our buildings with the plan for further enhancements over the coming years.
Water Management
We treat our waste water on site using the process of chemical flocculation and pH correction followed by press filtration, to remove solids prior to discharge. The cleaned water is then returned to our water provider.
Centura & The Environment
The Centura range of papers & boards are designed for the luxury packaging, art & craft & stationery markets. Available in pearlescent, metallic & neon colours, these grades are manufactured using FSC® certified pulp.
The coatings are water based, and contain no metallic pigments or plastics. Our clients include some of the UK’s leading luxury brands who share our values and partner with us to supply them with premium luxury papers which are both sustainable and ethically sourced.
